After the skies clear, lawyers will appear. Be wary of some personal injury lawyers soliciting you to join a lawsuit or making claims that insurance claims aren’t being taken care of. As Lucy Nashed explained, insurance claims are usually resolved without a lawyer, and can take up to seven times longer if one is involved. The weather-related lawsuit reforms the Legislature passed and Gov. Abbott signed into law helped rein in lawsuit abuse, while ensuring Texas families and small businesses have access to the courts for legitimate claims against insurers.
