Lawmakers in Texas have made a push for more legal reform to protect the courts from personal injury trial lawyers like Steve Mostyn. Mostyn made his fortune by suing the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association after Hurricane Ike, and continues to make large donations to campaigning and lobbying efforts that curb legal reform efforts.
Rep. Brandon Creighton, R-Conroe cited California, ranked the No. 1 judicial hellhole in the nation by the American Tort Reform Association, as an example of the negative side effects a state faces when trial lawyers exploit the courts.
