AUSTIN, TEXAS—The following statement should be attributed to Jennifer Harris, executive director of Texans Against Lawsuit Abuse, in response to the Senate’s passage on second reading of HB 1774, the hail storm lawsuit reform bill.
“Texans Against Lawsuit Abuse applaud the Senate’s approval of House Bill 1774, legislation that ensures consumer protection while reining in hail storm lawsuit abuse.
“Across our state, we’ve seen an increasing number of hail storm lawsuits from a small number of personal injury lawyers who appear to be aggressively recruiting homeowners to serve as plaintiffs and ensnaring innocent bystanders in these suits.
“We’re confident that HB 1774 will help to rein in these costly, anti-consumer, storm-chasing lawsuits, and we’re hoping the Senate gives final approval and Governor Abbott signs this critical piece of reform into law.”
